Why is it difficult to do guest posting in 2020
Guest post has been around for donkey years by now. Everyone has been there, done that sort of thing with guest posting. It feels to the point that it is saturated but think again, is it really?
Let's understand first...
What is guest posting/blogging?
Guest blogging refers to posting your quality content on similar niche website to acquire more traffic and backlinks.
It seems to have died in 2020, at least from my point of view.
Well, not really!
You can still kick some goals with it. The only difference now is that you need to know what you are doing. It's no longer about just posting an article on another website and getting backlink. Search engines like Google use very complex algorithms to determine the quality of the content before they even rank your website. Let alone, higher ranking requires superior work towards building great relationships with your audience.
Is it for everyone, is the question?
Most certainly not!
You need to be structured, have goals, well planned and be prepared to take risk. This requires a lot of effort, time and money to build the authority from ground up.
The purpose of guest posting is also to create brand awareness. The higher the authority your website holds, the more visitors it will attract.
We all know by now, more visitors means an abundance of opportunity to sell your service or products,
Dare I need to say, more sales means higher profits.
You get the picture crystal clear, right?
How can you approach the websites?
Before you plan to put your email hat on and start emailing crazy that is either too bold or steep.
Let's take a step back and re-think the reason why you are doing this in the first place.
Here are the few things that you can do:
- Identify the websites in your niche
- Create a list of websites based on quality (DR/DA) and website traffic
- Check their social media presence
- Look for audience engagement level
Perhaps you can categorise them by low, medium and high authority websites. Assuming, you are a newbie to guest posting, start with low authority websites.
Why????
To gain some exposure, refine your communication and writing skills.
The last thing you would want to do is to go with medium or even high authority websites pitch them and then be let down.
There can be many reasons as to why the websites may reject your article
- They can tell that you are newbie
- Your writing style and quality
- Does not meet their guidelines
- Not enough social media presence
- Email pitch was not well structured
Practice the nerves with low authority websites and they are easy to accept your request too.
Work on your email templates
Let's take a closer look into your email templates
Email template should include the following:
- Name of the author you are contacting
- A good subject line
- Body of content should include 3-5 eye catching topic ideas
- Close (include any links to your portfolio or good article)
- Wrap up (Thank them for their time)
Here are a few things to consider for email outreach
- Introduction email
- Pitch in your article email
- Follow up email
- Re-arrange your email pitch and reach out again (if no response)
